- Is wallpaper a good idea in a Perth climate?
- In the right rooms, yes. Avoid bathrooms and anywhere with sustained humidity, and avoid walls that take strong direct sun through north or west windows — Perth's UV fades patterned paper unevenly within a few years. Powder rooms, entries, stairwells and bedheads are where it works best here.
- Does the wall need preparing before wallpaper?
- Yes, and more than people expect. Wallpaper reveals a bad wall rather than hiding it, especially smooth or reflective papers. Walls are filled, sanded, cleaned and primed, and a poor wall gets lining paper first. Priming also makes removal far easier later.
- How difficult is wallpaper to remove later?
- It depends entirely on what it was hung on. Paper hung on a primed wall usually strips cleanly. Paper hung directly onto unprimed plasterboard bonds to the board's paper face and tears it on removal, which means a skim coat or a re-sheet. Ask before it goes up, not after.
