Workmanship Warranty
A written warranty on workmanship for residential repaints — what it covers, what it does not, and how to claim.

1. What is covered
Crest Painting & Decorating warrants that the work was carried out in a proper and workmanlike manner, in accordance with the accepted quote and the coating manufacturer’s written specification for the products used.
The warranty covers defects in our workmanship that appear during the warranty period — including flaking, blistering, peeling and delamination attributable to preparation or application, and finish defects such as runs, holidays, and lines that are not straight.
2. Warranty period
The period is stated on your quote and invoice. It runs from the date of practical completion.
Every residential job carries a minimum of five years on our workmanship. Where a coating system or substrate supports a longer period, the longer period is stated on your quote and applies instead.
This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, not instead of them. Nothing here limits those rights.
3. What is not covered
The warranty does not cover:
- Failure of the paint product itself — that is the manufacturer’s product warranty, and we will help you pursue it.
- Normal wear, fading, chalking and gradual colour change from UV exposure.
- Movement in the substrate — settlement cracking, structural movement, expansion joints, rusting lintels and drummy render.
- Moisture from any source: rising damp, leaking roofs, gutters and plumbing, failed waterproofing, condensation and poor ventilation.
- Mould and mildew growth caused by conditions in or around the building.
- Damage from impact, abrasion, cleaning with unsuitable products, pressure washing, storm, fire, flood, vandalism or subsequent work by others.
- Surfaces we advised against coating, or areas where you instructed us to reduce preparation against our recommendation — where that advice was recorded in writing on the quote or a variation.
- Work carried out by anyone else, and any area subsequently overcoated by another party.
4. Making a claim
Email crest.quotes@gmail.com with your quote or invoice reference, a description of the problem and photographs. We will arrange an inspection.
If the defect is covered, we will rectify it at our cost, which includes materials, labour and reasonable access equipment. Rectified areas are warranted for the balance of the original period, not a new one. We may decline a claim where access for inspection is refused.
5. Conditions
The warranty applies only where the account has been paid in full. It is given by Crest Painting & Decorating and applies to work at the property described on the quote.
6. Your statutory rights
This warranty is in addition to, and does not limit, replace or affect, the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Those guarantees apply whether or not this warranty does, and they are not limited to the five-year period described above.
Warranty against defects — required notice
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: to cancel your service contract with us; and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the contract.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Work on residential buildings in Western Australia may also carry statutory warranties and home indemnity protections. Nothing here displaces them. See also our terms of service.
