- How do I choose a paint colour that works in Perth light?
- Perth light is bright and warm, with a lot of reflected warmth off limestone and pale paving. Rooms with strong natural light usually want a white with a slightly cool or grey undertone to balance that; shaded south-facing rooms want a warmer white or they read cold. Never choose from a chip — paint A3 patches on more than one wall and look at them across a full day.
- Are dark exterior colours a bad idea in Perth?
- Not bad, but they cost you. A charcoal west-facing wall can reach around 74°C on a 38°C day against roughly 48°C for a white one. That means faster fading, more thermal movement, more hairline cracking and a repaint cycle several years shorter. Use them on shaded elevations, feature panels and joinery, and specify a product made for dark exterior colours.
